Training Practice – Frequently Asked Questions
Will I always see my usual GP?
We aim to offer appointments with your preferred GP whenever possible. On occasion, you may be offered an appointment with a GP trainee or medical student, but this is always optional.
What is a GP trainee (registrar)?
GP trainees are fully qualified doctors who have completed hospital training and are undertaking specialist training to become GPs. They work under close supervision from experienced doctors.
What is a medical student?
Medical students from the University of Liverpool attend the practice as part of their training. They may sit in during consultations or carry out consultations under supervision, but only with your consent.
Do I have to see a student or trainee?
No. Your participation is entirely voluntary. If you prefer not to see a student or trainee, please let reception or the clinician know—this will not affect your care in any way.
Will my consultation still be confidential?
Yes. All students and trainees are bound by the same strict rules of confidentiality as qualified doctors.
Does having a trainee affect the quality of care?
No. All trainees are supervised by senior doctors. In fact, teaching practices are often recognised for maintaining high standards of care.
Who supervises the trainees?
GP trainees and students are supervised by experienced doctors. Dr Jalan is a Clinical Supervisor and Dr Vang is the Educational Supervisor.
Why Training Practices Matter
Training practices play an important role in educating the next generation of doctors. By supporting medical students and GP trainees, we help ensure there are skilled, compassionate GPs available for the future.
Being a training practice also helps us maintain high standards of care. Our doctors stay up to date with the latest medical guidance, and teaching encourages reflection, learning, and best practice.
Most importantly, patient care always comes first. All trainees are closely supervised, and your comfort, safety, and confidentiality are always respected.
